Peter 在一間西餐廳工作，有天外籍同事臨時有事，用短訊問可否跟他調更。他知道對方一定是有急事要處理，就打算答應對方，回覆：“It is out of the question!” 結果對方卻另找同事幫忙，令 Peter 一頭霧水。分別，就在多了一個 “the” 字！ 雖然在英文口語中，大家都不會特別強調 “the” 這個字，但有時加一個 the 字，意思可以完全不同。以下的例子，你又知道有何分別嗎？  <h3>1. Out of the question vs Out of question</h3>文首的例子中，“Out of the question” 是指沒有可能，“Out of question” 才是解作沒有問題，兩句完全是相反意思。 “Out of question” 直譯即是問題之外，代表「毋庸置疑」、「沒有問題」，但其實這個說法比較老派，目前歐美地方已經不多人用： <ul>
<li>The trend of globalization is out of question. 
(全球化的趨勢是不容置疑的。)</li>
</ul>  如果加了一個 “the”，變成 “Out of the question”，就是指定某個特定問題，解作無法討論下去、不可能的。這個用法頗常見，可以用作回應請求，或者用作評論： <ul>
<li>Your proposal is out of the question. 
(你的計劃書是沒有可能的。)</li>

Do you have the time? vs Do you have time?</h3>你跟上司上客人的辦公室去作匯報，在等待期間，上司問你 “Do you have the time?” 你以為對方問你有沒有空，心想明明都在等客人，怎麼會這樣問呢？就答 “Yes, what can I do for you?” 上司卻沒好氣地笑了。 其實是你聽漏了一個 “the”，“Do you have time?” 確實是問對方有沒有空，但加了一個 “the”，就是指定了當刻的時間，等於是問你 “What time is it (現在幾點) ?” <h3>3. Be satisfied vs Be satisfied that / Be satisfied of</h3>“Satisfied” 這個字很常用，在後面用 “with”，就是解滿意後面所描述的事物。例如在職場上，客戶或上司表示滿意你的表現： <ul>
<li>I am satisfied with your proposal. 
(我非常滿意你的計畫書。)</li>
<li>The customer seems quite satisfied with our offer. 
(看來，客戶頗滿意我們開出的條件。)</li>
</ul>  不過，要注意在後面用的如果是 “that” 或者 “of”，即是 “be satisfied that” 或 “be satisfied of” 的用法，是解作「確信」或「證實」一件事，用法與 “convinced that” 相似： <ul>
<li>I am satisfied of his innocence. 
(我確信他是無辜的。)</li>
<li>Are you satisfied that the company is making good progress? 
(你相信公司正不斷改進嗎？)</li>
</ul><div></div><div></div><h3>4. Have no idea vs have no ideas</h3>不少人都懂得用 “have no idea” 來表示「不知道」、「不懂得」，意思與 “I don’t know” 一樣： A: Do you know what time the boss will come back to office? 
(你知道老闆甚麼時候回來公司嗎？)B: No idea! 
(天曉得！)  但如果口快快，在 “idea” 後加了一個 “s”，成了 “no ideas”，意思就變成「未有決定」、「還未想好」。在口語中也時會用到：A: What did you get for your girlfriend’s birthday? 
(你女朋友生日，準備了甚麼送她嗎？)B: I have no ideas. Do you have any suggestion?
